1st week at DIB

Throughout the day, I feel that Deaf in business is an interesting place to let us discover more experience for our self. First of all, the concept was new for most of the student in campus. For example, that is a lot of customer approach us and ask us the concept about this café. This was a good experience for most of us because we can learn how to communicate with other people. Secondly, this job actually lead us to become more independent when comes to working. For instance, we have to experience to handle the customer by our self, during the period of working, it was the break time for most of the students and lecturer. Therefore, that is the moment that can grab most of the customers. In order to grab customer attention, we split into person by person to promote the concept of the café to our customer.

2nd week at DIB

On the 2nd day, we were separated into two group with different task. The first group, which is my group, is in charge of helping of the café. The task for the 2nd group is to design a cardboard for the volunteer program. During that day, there is only four of us is working at the café. The other group was staying at the student life centre to work on the cardboard. It was tiring in the beginning since we are lack of people. However, we managed to survive on that day because it was not that hard since we experience this situation on the first day already. What I really learn from today was teamwork. For example, the four of us was working smoothly since we know each other abilities and skills already. Therefore, we can diversify the work accordingly and do our best for it.

3rd week at DIB

On the 3rd day, our task still remain the same. Therefore, our group still have to do the same work as last week. Surprisingly Mr Allen came back to the café and led the team to organise the business. Other than that, he also share some of his personal view about the business. He taught us that we have to ensure that the hygiene of the café. He asked us to clean up the place to make sure that our customer is having their meal in a comfortable situation. We have to ensure that our customer is eating in a clean environment. As we can see, hygiene is always the no.1 rules that need to be aware in any food industry. That is why Mr Allen want us to understand this if we going to on a food business in the future.

4th week at DIB

Mr Allen was here again, he gave us a stack of stamp cards and ask us to promote this to the customer. Our job was to give the stamp cards to our customer and explain the function of it. Mr Allen told us this is one of his techniques to grab customer attention. The promotion plan was if the customer spend RM20 and above in 1 single receipt, they will receive one chop for the stamp card. When the customer receive 8 chop, they can collect a free drink of their choice from the menu. Based on my personal opinion, this was a great excluding the part that the customer have to pay more than RM20 then only can receive a chop. Some of the student could not afford to eat a meal for RM20. Therefore, if the required spend can be lower, then it will attract more customer to spend over here.

5th week at DIB

On the last day of DIB, there is no difference compared to usual. Overall, I started to feel that I will be missing the moment that I had in DIB. Personally, this place is fun to work and also there is a lot of things I can learn from Mr Allen. Too bad we only work five days at DIB. Even though is my last day at DIB, I still put in my effort to serve my customer. At this moment, I realised that no matter is the first day or last day of working, there is a responsibility towards my job. No matter I going to leave today or not, I still have to finish up my task over here. Before we leave, I feel thankful for this café, it gave me a valuable experience in my life. I appreciate whatever I learn over here and I hope this experience will lead me to a different level for my working life.
